West Coast style has forever blazed a unique path within American culture. Whether you're talkin' hotrods, custom bikes or lowriders, the left coast is responsible for a lot of the OG style. Some hate it, some love it, but we all recognize the roots.
When Two Brothers Racing (TBR) was commissioned by Kawasaki to build a one-off ZX-6R for the 2008 MotoGP event at Laguna Seca, it was faced with a tough decision. A chrome custom or a righteous racer were sure winners, but to truly do Team Green some justice TBR needed to show inspiration. When the typical outlets for motivation were exhausted the guys at Two Brothers realized the culture outside their SoCal shop was ripe for the taking.
"We wanted something unique, something original, but also current. With streetfighters being hot at the time we decided we'd blend that with the SoCal lowrider scene to create what we call the Lowfighter," co-builder Dave Cullinan said.
With the idea flaked in their minds, Cullinan and Joel Albrecht sketched out a rough draft of the final product and set out to build the beast. The only catch; they had six days to complete the task before it was due at the event.
In a vortex of flying parts and four-letter words, custom cut race plastics were sent to Tagger Designs where they received more flake than a bass boat along with other lowrider touches like the foiled insets. Since a proper streetfighter needs a bikini fairing, Two Brothers returned from a digging expedition at Kawasaki headquarters with a Z1000 headlight assembly, forks and gauge cluster.
Big 100-spoke Dayton wheels are the shiz in the low'n slow crowd, so Two Brothers hit up Ride Wright for a set of its chrome and gold spokers with matching front rotors. The final bolt-ons were Attack rearsets along with more gold than Ft. Knox and enough chrome to bring it home.
But looking good was only half the story, so Racetech reworked the stock suspenders and Two Brothers added its full-system and a Juice Box to ensure this Kawi's performance matched its pose.
